5 simple ways to tackle Spring cleaning

It’s that time of the year where it seems like a good idea to spruce up your home, get your wardrobe organised, freshen up your linens and make everything smell like lemon fresh. Sounds amazing right? Except, I hate doing it. So here are 5 simple ways to tackle spring cleaning.

  1. Make a list

It’s an obvious one, I know, but it’s the best way to start the process. The way I organise my spring cleaning jobs is by listing the rooms in the house and what each of them need doing. It doesn’t need to be fancy, just get it out of your head and onto paper. But if you want I have a Spring cleaning checklist printable just below.

  2. Spread it out

Spring cleaning does not need to be done all at once. You are more likely to get it done if you spread out all that needs doing across a few days, and even better, the whole month. The idea of wasting my days cleaning drives me mad but if I allocate maybe half hour 2-3x per week, I am more likely to get this done.

  3. Organise one drawer

You do not need to do this. There is no Spring cleaning police so if you cannot be asked, don’t do it. However I find I can even think better if I get just one drawer organized. Cleaning and decluttering is good for your mental health so I guarantee you will get a sense of relief by simply getting your pants drawer sorted.

  4. Freshen up your bedding

Your pillows and duvet need a day in the sun. So on a bright sunny day, wash put your pillows and duvet in the washing machine (check the labels to make sure they are suitable for that) and let them dry in the sun. This job requires minimum effort. Alternatively you can get your duvet and pillows dry cleaning but do hand them in the sun for a few hours and your bedding will feel super nice and fresh.

  5. Delegate

It does not have to be a one person job so delegate the work to other people in your household. I am a bit of a control freak so there are certain cleaning and tiding jobs that my husband will offer to do but I know he is not gonna do them to my standards (haha!). So when I am listing the cleaning jobs I need doing around the house I will highlight things I am happy to delegate to him. Item 4, for example, is definitely one I would be happy for him to do it.

I hope this little list has given you some ideas on how to embrace spring cleaning in a way that works for you. Like I said before, cleaning and decluttering are incredibly helpful to your mental health, so even if you do the bare minimum, your mind and home will feel a lot better.
